Lyno World, Lagos State NYSC SAED Organizes 4th Edition of Camp Art Challenge
The Lagos State National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) camp at
Iyana-Ipaja was turned to an art festival on Sunday 5th August, 2018 as Lyno
World in collaboration with the NYSC Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship
Development (SAED) scheme created an atmosphere for corps members to
express themselves through art works which was neatly wrapped in a pack of
competition and self expressions. The competition had two phases; the first
phase was the quick sketch drawings of three models which lasted for ten
minutes each, and the second phase which was the real deal, it was a detailed
live drawing of Ifijeh Edith Destiny one of the corps members on camp and this
took thirty minutes.
Prior the competition, the C.E.O. of Lyno World Eyimiegha
Seidougha Linus encouraged participants to do the best they can, stressing that
this is not a contest to compare works, but to help more Nigerians appreciate
artworks as it has been designed to bring the arts to the frontage of a large
number of youths. He said in a nutshell that, every artist should express him
or herself from an individual perspective. However, the competition came to a
close when the juries following their criteria (ingenuity, originality, beauty
and expression) announced Fabeku Tomisin Tolani with code number LA/ 18B/
1583 the winner of the fourth edition of NYSC Camp Art Challenge from twelve
contestants. Tomisin was born on the 6th of March, 1996 and studied
Creative Arts from the University of Lagos specializing in Painting. In her
portfolio she has a collection of oil, acrylic, watercolors, illustrations and
digital paintings. She was clinched by Agha Chibuzor Samuel (LA/ 18B/ 0857) and
Aleogho Emmanuel with code number LA/ 18B/ 2001) was the second runner-up.
The three contestants that emerged as finalists were awarded
and other contestants got consolation prizes. Other corps members that were at
the event had their faces painted by the Lyno World team, alongside worked on
graffiti with the write-up, KOPAS ART JAMBOREE 4. The camp director Mrs.
Winifred Shokpeka expressed her profound gratitude to Lyno World and stated
further that the Lagos State NYSC is ready to continuously partner with
Lyno World in getting corps members empowered through the arts.
Mr. Eyimiegha Seidougha Linus in his appreciation note thanked
GTbank, Negro Art Gallery, Prince Momoh Mohammed the Lagos State NYSC
Coordinator, Mrs. Idaewor Rachael the head of Lagos NYSC SAED department, the
juries (Arch. Ayo Adedipe, Arueya Oghene Joel and Adetola Adenuga), other NYSC
officials, his team and previous winners that came to grace the event for their
support towards the success of this episode. He stated further that NYSC should
deploy more art graduates to Lagos State as it is the hub of the industry in
Nigeria and it is the only state where these youths can get the recognition
they deserve to be successful in their practice. On our end, he added, we have
been speaking to art dealers and gallery owners to help set corps members into
the industry and in a short while we shall be having an exhibition for the
youth corps members at Negro Art Gallery in Surulere.
Congratulations Tomi sin. Great Art work. Keep flying higher in the world of arts.
